Pay and display machines
In the vast majority of cases, our parking meters will print out a ticket which you can then display in your windscreen. Some parking meters are ticketless, however. In such cases, you will find instructions on the parking meter that tell you how to register your parking session.
When you receive a parking ticket, do the following:
• Place the parking ticket which indicates that you have paid in full in
a visible position inside the front windscreen.
• Check that the parking ticket is still in place before you leave
your car. Draught from closing the door can sometimes cause the ticket to fall out of place.
• Your parking ticket is a document of value that can be damaged by
external factors. In the case of loss or damage, you will not be compensated for any costs that this may entail.
Always make sure that you:
• Pay at the correct parking meter. Our parking meters will have a Q-Park sticker or sign on them.
• Pay the correct tariff.
• Comply with any other rules in place at the car park you are using.
At car parks with parking meters you can pay in the following ways:
• Prepayment – you pay on arrival for the amount of time you want to park for.
• Payment afterwards – you use a payment card to check in when you arrive and then check out and use your payment card to pay when you leave.

Almost all Q-Park car parks accept payment cards. You will see exactly what tariff applies on the parking meter you are using. If there are different tariff categories (e.g. a separate tariff for residents) then you can use the button to change the selected tariff.
Note that you may be required to display a valid permit in your car windscreen in order to use certain tariff options.
1. Insert your card into the card reader. Please note that your card must remain in place during the entire transaction.
2. Use the value buttons to pay for the desired amount of parking time.
3. Check the display and make sure everything is correct. If something is wrong then you can cancel your purchase and start again.
4. Press the parking ticket button and the parking meter will print out your parking ticket.
5. Place the parking ticket in a visible position inside your front windscreen.
Many of our car parks offer the option to pay at the end of your parking session. The advantage with this option is that you only pay for the actual time that you are parked for. Do the following in order to park and pay at the end of your parking session:
• Use your payment card to check in at the parking meter when you start your parking session.
• Check out and pay for your parking at the same parking meter using the same payment card when you are ready to leave.
The tariff that applies will be stated on the parking meter. The payment card that you use will be debited for the time between your check-in time and when you check out. Note that if you park at a location where different time intervals apply, you will be charged for each initiated time interval.
Use your payment card to check in on arrival:
1. Insert your card into the card reader. Please note that payment cards with chip and pin must be left in the reader during the entire transaction.
2. Follow the instructions on the parking meter.
3. The parking meter will print out a parking ticket.
4. Place the parking ticket in a visible position inside your front windscreen.
Check out and pay for your parking:
1. Insert the same payment card that you used when you checked in into the card reader on the parking meter. Please note that payment cards with chip and pin must remain in the reader during the entire transaction.
2. The parking meter will print out a receipt.
Parking meters with digital tickets
Some Q-Park car parks have parking meters which issue digital tickets. It will be stated on the parking meter if this is the case. The payment method in such cases may vary – follow the instructions on the parking meter you are using. Generally, you will be asked to enter your registration number at the parking meter and your purchase will be registered digitally. No parking ticket will be printed. Parking attendants at these car parks will have PDAs (tablet computers) that tell them you have paid and how long you will be parked for. If there is a maximum parking time, the parking meter will only take payment for up to this maximum time.
Paying in cash
Many of our parking facilities offer the option to pay for your parking in cash. You will see exactly what tariff applies on the parking meter you are using. If there are different tariff categories (e.g. a separate tariff for residents) then be sure to select the right tariff using the button before you insert any coins. Note that you may be required to display a valid permit in your car windscreen in order to use certain tariff options.
1. Insert coins until you reach the right amount for the parking time you want.
2. Check the display and make sure the parking time is correct before pressing the parking ticket button.
3. If something is wrong then you can cancel your purchase and start again.
Reserved (preliminary/protected) amount when paying afterwards
When you check in, the parking meter will perform an authorisation check. Q-Park checks that your payment card is not blocked or stolen and verifies that it is able to cover the purchase. Authorisation entails that Q-Park pre-authorizes a certain amount for your purchase. This amount will depend on what car park you use and what tariff applies to you. At certain parking facilities, an amount will be pre-authorised for every commenced day of parking if your car is parked for several days. The amount will depend on what tariff applies and at what time of day you begin your parking session.
The reserved (preliminary/protected) amount will be held by your bank and not paid to Q-Park. Your bank will be responsible for releasing the amount when your account is debited. This usually takes between three and five business days. When you pay for your parking, the parking meter will contact your bank and indicate what amount is to be deducted from your account. Previously reserved (preliminary/protected) amounts will then be released and the amount indicated on your receipt will be debited from your account.
